It gives me immense pleasure to serve as the Interim Dean of the School of Social Work at Monmouth University. The university offers many educational programs for students to develop and grow their intellectual knowledge for the future, and I look forward to supporting students to reach their goals.
The School of Social Work curriculum supports the University and School missions through three perspectives: social, economic and environmental justice through the advancement of human rights, strengths-based empowerment, and practices with families and within global context. Families within a global context define the initial focal social unit for all social work practice at Monmouth. Both our undergraduate and graduate educational programs center around these major themes and perspectives. The Office of Practicum and Professional Educational Programs places students in the agencies that help them to gain hands-on experiences to enhance their conceptual learning from in-classroom instruction.
Ignorance, prejudice, bigotry, and stereotypes are socially constructed problems that continuously threaten our human rights as well as social and economic justice. Social work education prepares us not only by providing the necessary knowledge base and skills, but also by enabling us to advocate and defend the rights of vulnerable constituents of our global population.
