Projects in Action
Monmouth University Social Justice Academy’s Projects-in-Action Showcase and Celebration Reception held on June 9, 2023, featured the dedicated work of our 2022-2023 fellows, supported by our coaches and instructors.
The Social Justice Academy is led by Director Nicole Pulliam Ph.D. and Assistant Director Vernon Smith Ph.D. The Social Justice Academy, generously supported by the Grunin Foundation, offers direct training and funding support to K-12 schools across the state for their ongoing social justice education and curriculum development efforts.
The academy is proud to be in partnership with Brookdale Community College, Georgian Court University, and Ocean County College. Established in 2021 and housed in the School of Education, the academy has already served over 50 school districts across 11 counties in New Jersey, and has welcomed in the third cohort this July 2023. In addition, the academy’s highly-attended, free professional development series has featured prominent thought leaders including Dr. Bernice King, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Dr. Beverly Tatum, Dr. Sonia Nieto, Dr. Bettina Love, Dr. Dena Simmons, Alfred “Shivy” Brooks and many more.
