Dr. Mary Kate Azcuy, associate professor and graduate program director in the Department of English, presented her paper “Louise Glück’s ‘Happiness’” at the Happiness: Enlightenment to Present conference at the University of Cambridge, King’s College in England.
The conference, which was held Oct. 19-21, explored the definition of the term ‘happiness’ through multiple views on theory, literature, and the humanities. Azcuy’s paper focused on Glück’s poem “Happiness” and her essay “On Happiness,” as well as intertextual conversations related to classical mythology, feminist, and gender theory (specifically Sara Ahmed’s text “The Promise of Happiness”), questioning happiness and unhappiness for women.
