Susan Meyer, MFA, specialist professor in the Department of Art & Design, presented at the Foundations in Art: Theory and Education (FATE) conference on April 10 in Tyson’s Corners, VA. The educational association, FATE, is “dedicated to the promotion of excellence in the development and teaching of college-level foundation courses in both studio and art history”. The conference, “Next Now,” focused on “challenging the established structures and assumptions that form our current understanding of what a foundational education in the arts is supposed to be.”
Meyer presented and chaired “The Cut Up: Generating Content Through Collage.” Fellow presenters included Jason Dunda, Illinois State University, “Assembly Required: Collage as Community/Plurality/Discovery” and Alexandra Robinson, St. Edward’s University, “The In from the Way Out: Cutting Things Up to Put Them Back Together.”
In her presentation, Meyer shared analog and digital collages, as well as short animations created by students in her Basic Design & Composition and Basic Design & Color class, including: Anthony Daglia, Gina Dige, Breanna Guinta, Liam Lubitz, Dan Martin, Summer Reimet, Emmett Romilio, and Jessica Taylor.
