Sherry Greenberg, Ph.D., RN, GNP-BC, FGSA, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, professor of nursing and Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education, was recently named a recipient of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 2024 Advocate State Award for Excellence for New Jersey. This annual honor is presented to nurse practitioners (NPs) and “those who work to increase patients’ access to the high-quality care NPs provide,” with one NP and one advocate selected from each state, district, or territory.
As the selected advocate for NJ, Greenberg will be honored along with all recipients at the 2024 AANP National Conference held in Nashville, TN, from June 25-30.
“I am incredibly honored to have been selected for this award,” said Greenberg. “Throughout my career, I have served as a certified gerontological nurse practitioner, nurse educator, leader, and advocate for increased access to care, autonomous nurse practitioner practice, promotion of health equity, and improved age-friendly care to older adults. I spearhead innovative initiatives by advancing curricula and interprofessional activities such as leading age-friendly health systems and oral health education projects focused on impact and outcomes. I especially enjoy collaborating with colleagues from other health professions contributing to innovative strategies for sustained change.”
Established in 1993, the AANP Advocate State Award for Excellence highlights efforts to advance the NP role and honors individuals who have made a significant contribution toward increasing awareness and recognition of NPs through ongoing work in policy, practice, and education at the state level.
“There are many accomplished nurse practitioners in New Jersey and throughout the country,” Greenberg added. “I am so grateful for this recognition and look forward to celebrating with all state awardees in June.”
