Monmouth University will receive the Anchor Award at the 3rd Annual Big Wave Awards ceremony, presented by the Jersey Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau. The event will be held at the Sheraton in Eatontown on October 17, 2012.
The Anchor Award honors individuals or businesses for being a force for positive change and an asset to the Jersey Shore community. This award is one of five of the highest awards the Jersey Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau gives out yearly.
Monmouth University was chosen for its contribution to the community by providing key elements to tourism in the region: arts, history, and tourism. Monmouth University is an outstanding educational, cultural, and entertainment center for the area. Throughout the year, live concerts, children’s theatre, gallery exhibits, athletic and community events, poetry readings, lectures, opera, films series, and many other events are held at venues on campus including the Multipurpose Activity Center (MAC), Pollak Theatre, Woods Theatre, and historic Wilson Hall.
Monmouth University’s beautiful campus is a popular tourist stop. The campus includes among its facilities Woodrow Wilson Hall, a national Historic Landmark and the Guggenheim Cottage, a wing of the Library, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Wilson Hall served as the setting for the 1982 film version of Annie.
