BALTIMORE, Oct. 23, 2013 – US Lacrosse has named Monmouth University women’s lacrosse head coach Denise Wescott a speaker at the US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Champion. Wescott will join roughly 200 of the sport’s best coaches, officials, and administrators as presenters at the lacrosse community’s largest professional development event Jan. 10-12, 2014, in Philadelphia.
Wescott will host “1-2-3 Method for Teaching Skills and Small Game Strategies” for girls’ lacrosse coaches at 3 p.m. Jan. 10 on the live field in the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
“Few coaches today have the extensive experience in coaching that Denise Wescott has, from her multiple tenures in the NCAA ranks and in international competition,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “We’re thrilled to have her as one of several greater Philadelphia/New Jersey-area speakers at our convention.”
“It’s an honor to be selected as a presenter at the US Lacrosse National Convention and to give back to the sport that has given so much to me,” Wescott said. “I’m looking forward to sharing tips and spending time with aspiring coaches from around the country.”
Wescott will enter her fifth season as the Hawks’ head coach in 2014, having led them to back-to-back Northeast Conference championships and NCAA tournament bids in 2012-13. She previously served as the head coach at multiple institutions, including Mount St. Mary’s University, the University of Delaware, Rutgers University, and Drew University. Wescott helped develop the German national team and coached Team Germany in the 2001 and 2005 World Cups. She played lacrosse and field hockey at the University of Maryland.
Lacrosse coaches, officials and administrators can purchase convention tickets online for just $95 before Nov. 30 (a savings of 30 percent vs. walk-up pricing). The convention ticket includes free post-event access to audio/video recordings and PowerPoints of all convention presentations.
The US Lacrosse National Convention has drawn approximately 7,000 participants in each of the last two years, and it includes four live demonstration areas, 150 educational sessions, business meetings for leadership groups within the sport, and the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.
The convention also includes the US Lacrosse Fan Fest, presented by TeamZila, which opens the convention center to the public Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lacrosse fans can check out gear and apparel from some 160 exhibitors in the sport’s largest expo hall, watch live demonstrations, and get autographs from members of Team USA and other top players.
