For the eighth consecutive season, the Monmouth University Bowling team earned National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic honors, the organization announced July 11. In addition, seven of the eight rostered student-athletes were named 2022-23 NTCA All-Academic scholar athletes.
The NTCA recognizes NCAA bowling teams that excel academically each year. To garner recognition, programs must finish the academic year with a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or higher and be a current member of the NTCA. Out of 42 qualifying team, the Hawks finished second in the nation with a 3.742 mark, trailing only Youngstown State.
Additionally, the NTCA recognizes student-athletes who finish the academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher as NTCA All-Academic scholar athletes. Seven of the 285 total student-athletes who qualified in 2022-23 are from Karen Grygiel‘s squad. Skylar Smith was recognized for a team-leading fifth time in her career, while Mafe Aguiluz, Jenna Lehrer, Jamie Phelan, Sierra Poole, Siyah Sweeny, and Desiré Villalobos also received honors for their hard work in the classroom.
