Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology Meghan Hynson, Ph.D., and recent music industry graduate Sara Wojciehowski presented “Music Industry Education in the Wake of COVID-19: Positive Pedagogical Developments at Monmouth University” at the Western Business and Management (WBM) Conference on Sept. 12.
Their paper discussed positive developments in music industry education at Monmouth following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Hynson and Wojciehowski describe some of the new skills students gained as they produced albums and multi-track performances from home, hosted record release parties on Instagram, organized a virtual summer music festival, and performed in remote recitals and concerts. The paper concludes with a discussion of how these new approaches resulted in permanent and positive changes to the curriculum, and how these developments have better prepared students for a global music industry that has been radically affected by COVID-19.
The paper will be published in the Journal of Business Management and Change (a Cabells listed “white” journal) in November.
