The Intercultural Center

You belong at Monmouth

The Intercultural Center at Monmouth University (ICMU) cultivates a campus environment where all its members can thrive equitably, with dignity, and a sense of belonging.

Mission

Since its opening in 2019, the Intercultural Center has been coordinating engagement opportunities that include:

  • Co-curricular cultural programming
  • Educational and cross-cultural dialogues
  • Identity exploration
  • Student leadership development and club advising
  • Community-building and affinity networks
  • Student mentoring, empowerment, support, and advocacy

Our efforts support the academic, social, and professional success of historically underrepresented campus community members, including but not limited to, People of Color, LGBTQIA+, first-generation, low-income, international, and religious minority members of Monmouth University. Additionally, we aim to build allyship and understanding across differences.

Furthermore, the IC promotes university-wide shifts towards diversity, inclusion, and respect by fostering a sense of shared responsibility for enacting equity within our diverse community of students, faculty, staff, administration, neighbors, and alumni. We do this through policy/practice consultation, campus climate assessment, professional development, grant-making/co-sponsorships, committee service, and general collaboration.

The Intercultural Center reports to the Office of the President – and our space, events, and partnership are open to all.
