Parental Leave

The University provides eligible employees options for time away from work following the birth of a child or placement of a child (under the age of 18) for adoption or foster care through the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1933 and New Jersey Family Leave Act. Generally, these options provide job-protected access to unpaid leave. Introduced in 2024, Monmouth University’s Paid Parental Leave Policy gives parents time and flexibility to bond with their child and to foster the work-life balance vital to families.

Full-time administrative and non-union staff employees are eligible immediately upon hire by the University for a maximum of two weeks of paid parental leave per birth, adoption, or placement of foster child(ren). Paid leave under this policy is not available for the birthing parent. (See paid leave options for birthing parents under the Employee Sick Leave Policy. Multiple births or adoptions do not increase the two-week maximum. Two employees from the same family may each take two weeks either at the same time or separately.

Paid parental leave may be taken at any time during the 12-month period immediately following the birth, adoption, or placement. The Paid Parental Leave Policy will run concurrently with FMLA and/or NJFLA.
