Alumni and Career Opportunities
The human experience is vast and varied. Anthropology offers a different perspective on every type of human community, while creating research opportunities abroad, close to home, and in rural traditional communities and megacities.
Monmouth’s M.A. in Anthropology provides a comprehensive base of knowledge about the world and its cultures, and a foundation for a variety of dynamic careers in places like universities, museums, cultural preservation organizations, international financial institutions, government and non-governmental organizations, and more.
Our faculty work with you to integrate your interests into the curriculum, tailoring your program through a combination of field research opportunities, internships, independent study, and more—setting you up for a successful future in your chosen field. Some of our alumni have chosen to continue their education and have secured fully funded positions in doctoral programs at institutions such as the University of California Santa Barbara and the University of South Florida.
Career Paths Beyond Academia
Multiple professional opportunities await outside of academia. Whether you’re interested in cultural resource management, museum work, public service, forensics, or a career in corporate research and development, a background in anthropology opens doors to a variety of impactful careers in:
- Cultural Anthropology: Work in areas of UX design and corporate ethnography, or for governmental organizations and non-governmental organizations specializing in international development, public health, cultural survival, and more.
- Archaeology: Оur program prepares you to join the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA), which enhances your employability and opens doors to advanced career opportunities in archaeology. Conduct fieldwork, excavations, and research to uncover and preserve artifacts and historical sites working for government agencies or private Cultural Resource Management firms.
- Biological Anthropology: Build a career in medico-legal professions, law enforcement, public health, and more. Biological anthropologists work in diverse settings, including–but not limited to–crime scene investigations, coroners’ offices, mass disaster responses, nonhuman primate research, and science communication.

At Monmouth University, I studied with Dr. Rich Veit and Dr. Adam Heinrich. Monmouth University shares a professional network with several cultural resource management (CRM) firms and state institutions in New Jersey. Thanks to these connections, I was able to complete an internship with a local CRM firm, Richard Grubb and Associates, Inc (RGA, Inc.), during my third semester at MU. I was later offered a full-time position with the company just prior to my graduation. Today, I continue to work for RGA, Inc. as an Archaeologist and G.I.S. Specialist.
