Monmouth University is a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon Program is a partnership between the University and the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide additional funding to eligible veterans and their dependents to help pay tuition and fees that the Post 911 GI Bill® doesn’t cover. The value of the award is the difference between the tuition cap established by the VA and tuition and fees at Monmouth University; the VA pays 50% of difference and Monmouth pays the other 50%.
To be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program, at least one of the following must be true:
- You served at least 36 months on active duty (either all at once or with breaks in service and were honorably discharged, or
- You received a Purple Heart on or after September 11, 2001, and were honorably discharged after any amount of service, or
- You served at least 30 continuous days (all at once, without a break) on or after September 11, 2001, and were discharged or released from active duty for a service-connected disability, or
- You’re an active-duty service member who has served at least 36 months on active duty (either all at once or with breaks in service), or
- You’re a spouse using the transferred benefits of an active-duty service member who has served at 36 months on active-duty, or
- You’re a dependent child using benefits transferred by a veteran, or
- You’re a Fry Scholar
Eligibility for the program is not a guarantee of funding. Funding is available for up to only 40 students per year and can be offered to both undergraduate and graduate students; the proportion of undergraduate and graduate students is not necessarily equal. Awards are renewable annually for the duration of the student’s academic program, provided that the student remains in good academic standing. Awards to new recipients are made on a first come, first served basis after awards to prior year recipients have been renewed. Funding is available for the academic year (i.e., fall and spring semester) only.
