New Jersey World Trade Center Scholarship

This scholarship was established to benefit dependent children and surviving spouses of New Jersey residents who were killed in or who died as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001 or who died as a result of illness caused by exposure to the attack sites. In order to apply, you must complete the World Trade Center Application through the NJFAMS portal.  The deadline for fall and spring term is October 1 of the academic year for which aid is requested. The deadline for the spring term only is March 1 of the academic year for which aid is requested.  Based on current funding levels, the maximum award amount is $6,000 per academic year. The scholarship is not available for summer or winter term classes.

In order to be eligible, students must:

  • Be a child or spouse of an individual who was a NJ resident on September 11, 2001 and who was:
    • Killed in the terrorist attack against the U.S. on September 11, 2001
    • Died as a result of injuries received in the attack
    • Died as a result of illness caused by exposure to the attack sites
    • Declared missing an officially presumed dead as a result of the attack
  • Provide documentation to verify eligibility
  • Be a U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen, or eligible to file the NJ Alternative Financial Aid application
  • Be a full-time, undergraduate student
  • Eligibility to apply is limited to eight years from the date of the child’s high school graduation and/or eight years from the date of the death for the spouse
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress
  • Complete an application each year and not have received the maximum allowable number of payments (eight semesters of payments for a regular four-year degree program; five semesters of payments for a regular two-year degree program.)
