How Can Civil Discourse Lead to Good Public Policy?
Leading New Jersey Democrats and Republicans will meet at Monmouth University on March 2 to launch a new conversation series aimed at bridging the political divide through civil discourse.
Monmouth University introduces Leadership, Civility, and Common Ground in Politics and Public Service, A Public Conversation Series led by New Jersey Sen. Vin Gopal and former New Jersey Sen. Joe Kyrillos The series will launch on March 2, 2022 with a conversation scheduled for 11:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. The participants will include New Jersey Senate President Nicholas Scutari (D) and New Jersey Senate Minority Leader Steven Oroho (R).
The first discussion will focus on how civility in public discourse can lead to good public policy and outcomes. Additionally, the two legislative leaders will discuss how they plan to engage with one another in their respective roles while demonstrating how civil dialogue has produced positive results during their tenure in public life.
Monmouth University President Patrick Leahy will provide a welcome address and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Pamela Scott-Johnson will provide opening remarks.
This free event will be available via Livestream and is open to the general public, but registration is required.
This event, which will take place in Pollak Theatre, is accepting registrations for audience attendance but is limited to Monmouth University community members only due to current guidelines.
