For its fourth annual Ink & Electricity event, Monmouth will host the lecture “Up from Middlebrow” by Jonathan Rose, a William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of History from Drew University. Taking the title of his talk from Booker T. Washington’s Up from Slavery, Rose will survey the recent historiography of American middlebrow literature—from nineteenth-century black Shakespeare clubs to Oprah.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Sponsored by the Wayne D. McMurray Endowed Chair in the Humanities. For more information, contact Kristin Bluemel.
