Bruce Springsteen: A Photographic Journey
Bruce Springsteen: A Photographic Journey, a traveling photography exhibition curated by the GRAMMY Museum Los Angeles, features 45 iconic images. The opening reception on September 27 from 1-4 PM will include a Q&A with the photographers moderated by Grammy Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli at 2:30 PM.
Aaron Wexler
Aaron Wexler’s work investigates shapes in nature as they relate to abstraction in painting. He collects distinctly different representations of abstraction of nature and architectural networks and utilizing prints, books, photographs and hand painted paper, makes drawings and collages from these source materials. Wexler received his M.F.A from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1999. His work has been included in various solo and group shows in New York and London including the Morgan Lehman Gallery, Josee Bienvenu Gallery, The National Academy Museum, and Katonah Museum of Art, among others.

James Deane: A Hidden Treasure
This exhibit will feature recently discovered artwork by artistic visionary James Deane a life-long resident of Long Branch (1906 – 2001.) Prolific in many mediums, Deane created works of art with watercolors, pen and ink, pencil and clay. He was supported by his only sibling, his sister Laura, which allowed him the freedom to focus exclusively on his artwork for many years. The works featured in this exhibit include magnificent botanical studies, futuristic landscape paintings and whimsical pottery, most of which has been unseen since the 1930’s.

Visiting Writer: Alex Gilvarry
Alex Gilvarry is the author of the novel, From the Memoirs of a Non-Enemy Combatant (Viking). He was selected as a “5 Under 35” nominee by the National Book Foundation in 2014 and received the Hornblower Award at the 2012 New York City Book Awards. He has been a Norman Mailer fellow and a visiting scholar at the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Austin. His essays and criticism have appeared in Vogue, The Nation, Boston Globe, and have been broadcast on NPR’s All Things Considered. His next novel, Eastman Was Here, is forthcoming from Viking/Penguin in 2016. He is the Artist-in-Residence at Monmouth University where he teaches creative writing.

National Theatre Live: The Beaux’ Stratagem (Broadcast in HD)
Simon Godwin (Man and Superman) directs George Farquhar’s wild comedy of love and cash. The ‘Beaux’: Mr. Aimwell and Mr. Archer, two charming, dissolute young men who have blown their fortunes in giddy London. Shamed and debt-ridden, they flee to provincial Lichfield. Their ‘Stratagem’: to marry for money.
Lodged at the local inn, posing as master and servant, they encounter a teeming variety of human obstacles: a crooked landlord, a fearsome highwayman, a fervent French Count, a maid on the make, a drunken husband, a furious butler, a natural healer and a strange, turbulent priest.
But their greatest obstacle is love. When the Beaux meet their match in Dorinda and Mrs Sullen they are most at risk, for in love they might be truly discovered.

Foreign Puzzle follows dancer and choreographer Sharon Marroquin as she endures intensive breast cancer treatments and explores her fear of death through the creation of a 90 minute dance titled, “The Materiality of Impermanence.” The dance becomes Sharon’s only outlet, allowing her to escape the daily pressures of the disease and life as a single working parent, and shapes her perceptions about life as she fights to heal her body and mind.

Aquila Theatre’s The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, takes the stage in this witty, fast paced production by the acclaimed Aquila Theatre. The clever Holmes skillfully maneuvers the twisted web of London’s most intriguing cases with his split second deductions revealing intimate and useful details of a person’s life. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s vivid characters jump from the page weaving a tale of mystery, suspense and intrigue. In addition to Holmes, many of Doyle’s other well known creations are on hand; the trusted sidekick Dr. Watson, Irene Adler, the woman who got away, and the only woman to have won Holmes’s respect, the red-headed mason Jabez Wilson. With actors drawn from the top British and American stages, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a thrilling and memorable ride.

Joined by multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird, the core Cowboy quartet returns to Monmouth for a retrospective of their three decades playing (and listening to) all manifestations of popular music. Expect an evening that runs the gamut from the folky intimacy of the band’s earliest efforts, to an always surprising selection of covers — although simply delivering “the expected” has never been part of the Cowboy Junkies playbook.
