Made up of women from both sides of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, Rwanda’s first and only all women’s drum troupe, Ingoma Nshya, offers a place of support, healing and reconciliation. When the group decides to partner with two young American entrepreneurs to open Rwanda’s first ever ice cream shop, these remarkable women embark on a journey of independence, peace and possibility. SWEET DREAMS interweaves heart-wrenching stories of tragedy with powerful examples of hope and resilience to present a moving portrait of a country in transition. There will be a Q&A with Co-Directors Lisa Fruchtman and Rob Fruchtman following the screening.

William Close and the Earth Harp Collective recently pushed the boundaries of the “performance experience” when they finished third on NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent.” The group received massive praise and admiration from fans and all three judges. William Close is an installation artist and musician who has developed over 100 new types of musical instruments. He is the inventor of the majestic stringed instrument, The Earth Harp, the world’s largest stringed instrument.

It’s just like book club but with albums! With new advances in
technology, the way we consume music through our devices, apps
and on demand streaming services like Pandora, Spotify and iTunes
is making the idea of the “album” as an art form extinct. Get together
with other music enthusiasts on Tuesday nights in Woods Theatre to
discuss some of the greatest records of all-time! Listen to the album
beforehand and then come prepared to discuss…there will be special
guest moderators and panelists at each event! This discussion will feature NIRVANA’S Nevermind. This event is free but registration is required. Panelists for this event include: Aaron Furgason, Chair, Monmouth University’s Department of Communication & Kim Zide Davis- Manager for the band Pantera, Rich Robinson- Program Director/ On-air Personality 90.5 The Night; and the estate of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.

Resonance Collective Dance Performance

Erlanger Gardens will come to life with a site-specific performance event invoking the wonder and desire of nature through a visceral landscape of moving bodies and sound. Monmouth University has united visual artist Lucy Kalian, whose work is being shown this semester in the Pollak Gallery and The Resonance Collective; a collaborative interdisciplinary dance and vocal ensemble, bringing our environment to life through stunning imagery and virtuosic physicality. The Erlanger Garden performance will begin at 12:00PM and will feature an original dance and electronic/live vocal piece. This is the beginning of a day-long event culminating in the Pollak Gallery opening of Lucy’s Swells and Soundings exhibit at 6:30PM. Within her exhibit, Lucy explores the tidal forces at work where land and water meet. This exhibit is cosponsored by the Urban Coast Institute.

CSNsongs “Celebrating The Music Of Crosby Stills Nash & Young”

CSNsongs is more than a tribute band. It is a group of seven New Jersey based musicians that create a full production show paying homage to the folk/rock group that changed music in the 1960s and ’70s.” All of “Crosby Stills Nash & Young’s” compositions are highly respected by “CSNsongs” and are reproduced perfectly as they were originally written, recorded and performed throughout Crosby Stills Nash & Young’s musical legacy. The iconic group’s music was born at the famous Woodstock Music Festival when Crosby, Stills and Nash hit the stage and changed the face of folk/rock music forever. Their music continued throughout the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s and is still popular and relevant today. CSN Songs helps audiences relive such special musical moments as Suite Judy Blue Eyes, Ohio, Love the One You’re With, Just a Song Before I Go, and Southern Man.
