Dance meets film meets virtual reality: Bridgman|Packer Dance will present Voyeur, their highly acclaimed work that received a 2017 New York Dance and Performance Award. Featuring choreographer/performers Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer’s innovative work in “Video Partnering”—the integration of live performance and video technology— Voyeur is inspired by artist Edward Hopper’s world of color, light, perspective, and under-the-surface eroticism. Fragmented moments of private lives are witnessed through windows and doorways. As the performers merge and collide with the video imagery, the presence of a seen or unseen viewer lies at the heart of Voyeur. Voyeur will be paired with other work from Bridgman|Packer Dance’s repertory.

Black Like Me: An Exploration of the Word “N”-word is a multidisciplinary work that explores the reverb of a single word in a global community. It considers the effects of the word “N”-word , all its permutations, its history, and its casual use in Hip Hop culture. In collaboration with two of America’s leading Black media-design technologists and local activists, it asks if it is possible to redefine a word that was intended to belittle a people. Black Like Me combines physical, verbal, visual and sonic language to tell five narratives and perspectives in a unique way. This event is FREE and open to the public. Registration is appreciated but not required.

Three sparkling scenes accompanied by the music of three essential composers, feature the styles of the three dance schools that have contributed to making George Balanchine a legend of modern ballet.
This glamorous triptych was inspired by Balanchine’s visit to the famous jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels on New York’s Fifth Avenue, and created as an homage to the cities and dance schools of Paris, New York and St. Petersburg that made a vital impact on the revered choreographer’s career.
From the creator of America’s favorite story THE WIZARD OF OZ comes this little-known sequel THE LOST PRINCESS OF OZ! L. Frank Baum continues the adventures of Dorothy from Kansas, Glinda the Good Witch and the Wizard himself as they search for Princess Ozma to recover the magic stolen from Oz. In this fantastical tale, Baum introduces new characters including the Frogman, the Patchwork Girl, the clock man Tik-Tok, and, of course, the talking (singing) hen, played by Reagan Richards of the popular country duo Williams Honor. Gordon Brown, also of Williams Honor, portrays Baum. This multimedia dance musical from the Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater is directed by Gabriel Chajnik with a libretto based on Baum by Shannon Hill and an exciting original score by Chris Becker, whose Appalachian-inspired composition is infused with country fiddles and bluegrass banjoes!
For this 50th anniversary celebration, Pilobolus questions its own “givens,” turns its traditions sideways, and brings its past into the future. As fresh and vibrant as ever, Pilobolus –that feisty arts organism– puts the “Oh!” in BIG FIVE OH!, and continues to morph its way thrillingly into audiences’ hearts and minds. The celebration includes signature works from vintage classics to their trend setting innovative work in shadow.

Step Afrika! blends percussive dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities; traditional African dances; and an array of contemporary dance and art forms into a cohesive, compelling artistic experience. Performances are much more than dance shows; they integrate songs, storytelling, humor, and audience participation. The blend of technique, agility, and pure energy makes each performance unique and leaves the audience with their hearts pounding.
Ballet Hispánico is the nation’s renowned Latino dance organization and one of America’s Cultural Treasures. For 50 years Ballet Hispánico has been bringing communities together to celebrate and explore Latino cultures through innovative dance performances, transformative dance training, and enduring community engagement experiences. The organization’s founder, National Medal of Arts recipient Tina Ramirez, sought to give voice to the Hispanic experience and break through stereotypes. Today, Ballet Hispánico is led by Eduardo Vilaro, an acclaimed choreographer and former member of the Company, whose vision of social equity, cultural identity, and quality arts education for all drives its programs.
