Jarrod Spector and Kelli Barrett – Live from Adelphi Concert Series

“Live from Adelphi Concert Series” brings Broadway and cabaret stars together online for several concerts performed at Adelphi’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Sunday afternoons. Adelphi has partnered with venues across the country to help promote the series and the artists.

Jarrod Spector is best known for his Tony Nominated performance in Beautiful: the Carole King Musical in the role of ‘Barry Mann’. He played ‘Frankie Valli’ for a record 1500 performances in Broadway’s Jersey Boys and was last seen as the iconic ‘Sonny Bono’ in Broadway’s The Cher Show. Kelli Barrett originated the role of ‘Lara Guishar’ in Broadway’s Doctor Zhivago and has also played leading roles in Broadway’s Wicked, Baby It’s You! and The Royal Family. She was recently lauded for her portrayal as ‘Liza Minnelli’ in the award-winning FX show Fosse/Verdon.

Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain – VIRTUAL PANEL DISCUSSION

Join us for a zoom discussion of the 2014 film Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain, an Indian English-language historical drama film directed by Ravi Kumar. Based on the Bhopal disaster that happened in India on 2–3 December 1984, the film stars Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton, Kal Penn, Rajpal Yadav, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Fagun Thakrar. The film is available for streaming on a number of platforms including Amazon Prime, VUDU and YouTube (for rent or purchase). The virtual discussion will be led by Monmouth University Professor’s Datta Naik and Marina Vujnovic. When you register you will be provided the meeting link to join the conversation.

History of Motown

In 1959, a young songwriter named Berry Gordy started a record company with an $800 loan from his family. That company, Motown, would not only become the first Black-owned label to reach widespread national success; it would substantially transform music and culture.  This three-week course explores the evolution of the label, from its beginnings through its 1960s heyday featuring acts like the Supremes, the Four Tops, and the Temptations. The 1970s brought political statements, youthful pop, and disco, while the 1980s ushered in funk and smooth R&B. Through multimedia presentations and discussions, this three-session virtual course, taught by Kit O’Toole, will cover all these eras, enhancing understanding of Motown’s history and enduring legacy.

Writing Memoir

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. AN ADDITIONAL COURSE HAS BEEN ADDED DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND!! March 11 – 25 | 7:00 – 8:30 PM. This three-session virtual course provides attendees with an introduction to basic modes for telling the stories of their lives. Working in a supportive workshop setting, students will enjoy engaging, wide-ranging discussion about the joys and challenges of bringing their memories to life. Instructor: Mike Farragher, Monmouth University alumnus and author of numerous works of fiction and memoir.
