Cheryl Leiningen is a dual certified advanced practice nurse (adult primary care and psychiatric mental health), having received her degree from New York University and her post-master’s certificate for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Monmouth University.  In 2013, she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rutgers University). She is the MSN Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track coordinator, an associate professor, and a graduate faculty member. 

She is a faculty scholar in the Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Faculty Program (VNF) at the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation at New York University in 2015, is the recipient of their 2016 Alumni Award, and was a presenter at the World Parkinson’s Congress in Portland, Oregon. 

Her research has focused on the impact of bullying in nursing, LGBT health issues (particularly the transgender population), and in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented on these topics both nationally and internationally. 

She is an editor for Doody Enterprises, Inc.’s Editorial Review Groups, and has written numerous, published reviews. She maintains a private clinical practice in mood and anxiety disorders. Leiningen also serves as a national evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
