Charlene Diana is the vice president and general counsel of Monmouth University, overseeing the University’s legal interests, and minimizes legal risks, while additionally managing the Office of Internal Audit. She also serves as the ex officio assistant secretary to the Board of Trustees and ex officio secretary to the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music Corporation.
Joining Monmouth in 2005 as a part-time staff attorney, Diana quickly transitioned to a full-time role. In 2009, she was promoted to assistant general counsel, appointed acting director of affirmative action human relations and compliance in 2011, and then promoted to associate general counsel in 2013. From July 2020 to June 2022, she also served as acting research administrator and director of the Office of Research Compliance. Diana was appointed acting vice president and general counsel in September 2022 and named to the permanent position in July 2023.
Prior to joining Monmouth University, Diana was an associate in private practice, where she represented clients in various general litigation matters.
Diana earned a Juris Doctor from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2002 and a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in criminal justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1999. She is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
