The anthropology curriculum is designed to provide a liberal arts education that emphasizes the scientific study of humanity. Three areas of anthropology are covered: cultural anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology.

The B.A. in History curriculum is designed to provide an understanding of the complex forces that have shaped the modern world. Course offerings in history provide students with a strong background in U.S. and European history, as well as in the history of Western Civilization.

The purpose of the minor in African Diaspora Studies is to provide students with a background in the histories and cultures of Africa, African Americans and the diverse African Diasporic communities around the world.

The anthropology minor provides students with a broad background in anthropology, the comprehensive scientific study of people and their societies, past and present around the world. Students take coursework in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and physical anthropology.

The archaeology minor is designed to provide students with a firm grounding in North American archaeology. Coursework focuses on the ancient and historic cultures of the Americas. Students are trained in archaeological methods and theory, with special focus on developing skills in archaeological field work.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a widespread technology that helps you with everyday navigational tasks and encompasses the broader science of managing, analyzing, and mapping geographic data. A minor in GIS provides a computational skill set complementary to many major fields of study.

The Minor in Geography provides a solid grounding in physical and cultural geography, mapping, and geographic information systems.

The History minor provides a broad overview of the past and assists students in honing their critical-thinking, reading, and writing skills. You may take coursework in political, cultural, social, and military history in the areas of the United States, Europe, and the non-Western World.

Tackle life’s biggest questions as a Philosophy minor. Philosophy and the liberal arts not only provide an inquiry into every dimension of human life, but they teach techniques that can be applied to problems in any field or endeavor.

Explore philosophical questions, belief systems, and societal structures throughout history with a Philosophy and Religious Studies minor.

Learn how to apply history to real-world scenarios with a Minor in Public History. You will conduct field work, research, and projects while developing the essential skills needed for a career as a public historian.

As our societies become more diverse and globally connected, it is imperative that we develop cultural competency as we move forward. With a minor in Race and Ethnic Studies, you will become a global citizen through the interdisciplinary studies of the history, culture, geography, politics, sociology, and economics of Africans, African Americans, Asians, Native Americans, Latin Americans, and Muslim populations in the Middle East.

Critically and thoughtfully engage with religion throughout history and in the world today with a Minor in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Given religion’s traditional and ongoing power to shape individuals and societies, religious literacy is imperative to responding to the diverse religious perspectives and phenomena that impact local and global contexts, both past and present.

This comprehensive program is grounded in method and theory and provides extensive opportunities for fieldwork and internships in archaeology, cultural anthropology, cultural resource management, geographic information systems (GIS), historic preservation, and many other areas, giving you essential hands-on experience and preparing you for a career or doctoral study in anthropology.

Develop skills in public and historical archaeology through Monmouth’s 18-credit Certificate in Archaeology. In this specialized certificate within the M.A. in Anthropology program, you will prepare for a career as a professional archaeologist or a museum/preservation professional by learning the methodological and substantive skills and approaches that define these fields.

Learn to effectively manage and analyze geographic information systems data with Monmouth’s 12-credit program. Available to both students and working professionals, the Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is one of only two programs in New Jersey that gives students the technical skills necessary for success in this dynamic and growing field.
