About the Program
By specializing in laboratory science, you will learn to operate sophisticated instruments and use biochemical, microscopic, molecular, and immunological techniques to analyze medical specimens. This course of study will teach you to examine the presence, extent, or absence of various diseases, as well as the effectiveness of treatment.
Students majoring in Medical Laboratory Science complete 88 credits as prescribed by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), followed by a 12-month internship in an affiliated NAACLS-approved hospital.

Student Outcomes
After completing their national certification exam, graduates can find employment in areas including hospitals, independent laboratories, clinics, public health facilities, and industries such as pharmaceuticals, molecular diagnostics, and molecular biotechnology firms. Graduates may also enter M.S. or Ph.D. programs in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, pursue advanced degrees in fields such as biotechnology or public health, or enroll in medical or other health professions school.
MLS and CLS students pay reduced tuition during their hospital internships and have an outstanding record of post-graduation job placements with employers such as: Quest Diagnostics, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center, Hackensack University Hospital, Kimball Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Overlook Hospital, NY Presbyterian Healthcare System, and Capital Health Hospitals.
Undergraduate Research & Internships
Medical Laboratory Science students will participate in clinical internships in their senior year, during which they are offered a greatly reduced tuition rate. Internships are held at the affiliated Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center. Students rotate through hospital departments, gaining practical experience in current state-of-the-art tests and procedures of chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology.
