ED-101: Transition to College

Monmouth University offers a course that is designed for students with documented disabilities. ED-101:Transition to is a one-credit elective course geared toward incoming freshmen. It is highly recommended that freshmen enroll in this course. The transition to college life poses many challenges to all students. When students have a disability, these challenges may be greater in number or more intense. This course attempts to assist students in their transition by presenting material that will help them become independent learners. The following is a partial list of topics:

  • learning styles
  • self-exploration of learning strengths and weaknesses
  • self-advocacy
  • test preparation and test-taking strategies
  • organizational methods and time management
  • study skills
  • self-disclosure
  • accommodation selection
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
