We've all been stuck on a paper before. Sometimes we can't get started. Other times, we're not sure if our writing makes any sense. Then there are times where, after working on a paper for so long, we just can't look at it anymore. From the moment a paper is assigned to the time it's due, the writing process can be overwhelming. That's why we're here.
Any student at Monmouth can make a one-on-one appointment with Writing Services. You'll meet with one of our Writing Assistants (WA)—a peer, faculty, or professional tutor. That person will work with you individually to review your writing from any class at the University. Our WAs offer assistance, but they don't criticize your work. They don't grade it or mark it up. In fact, WAs won't write on your paper at all. The only red marks will be your own.
Appointments are meant to be collaborative and informal. Throughout the session, you and the WA will have a dialogue, where the WA will address your concerns and help you determine what your paper needs—whether it's a clearer thesis, stronger supporting points, proper APA format, etc. The WA is there to guide and motivate you to draft the best paper you can.
WAs work with students on all stages of the writing process—from planning to proofreading. You actually don't have to have anything written when you come for your appointment. You can visit Writing Services only when you need to, or you can schedule regular appointments throughout the semester. You also have the option to work with the same WA or a variety of different people. No matter what you're working on, we'll provide that second pair of eyes to look over your writing.
