University Receives Eight Commendations for Areas of Exceptional Achievement
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (July 7, 2016) – The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) has reaffirmed Monmouth University’s academic accreditation, noting eight commendations for areas of excellence in its report.
The affirmation of Monmouth University’s educational mission follows a two-year self-study process and comprehensive on-site evaluation visit as part of the Middle States’ decennial review schedule. In its report, the evaluation team, comprised of representatives from peer institutions, praised the university’s self-study report and gave high marks across the standards of measurement, including eight commendations for exceptional achievement in student support services, faculty commitment, strategic planning, and financial stewardship, among others.
“I am delighted at the very successful outcome of our evaluation,” said Monmouth University President Paul R. Brown. “Every area of campus contributed to the MSCHE self-study which followed close on the heels of our recently completed strategic plan. We are fortunate that the teamwork and transparency that informed our strategic planning efforts was brought to bear so quickly for our Middle States evaluation.”
MSCHE assures students and the public of the quality of higher education. Through a series of 14 rigorous accreditation standards, MSCHE measures institutional effectiveness, assesses learning programs and outcomes, long-term financial health and viability, facilities and virtually every phase of operations. It provides a detailed “report card” of each institution’s results. MSCHE accreditation impacts an institution’s funding and ability to attract quality faculty, administrators and staff and is mandatory in order for students to be eligible for financial aid.
“The affirmation comes at a perfect time for Monmouth University,” said Laura Moriarty, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “We have been putting the priorities of our strategic plan into action over the last two years, and the excellent feedback from our peers on the evaluation team are a clear signal that we are on the right track to reach our ambitious goals for excellence.”
The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is a voluntary, non-governmental, regional membership association currently serving higher education institutions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and other geographic areas in which the Commission conducts accrediting activities.
