OCEAN FRONTIERS FILM PREMIERES IN NEW JERSEY ON APRIL 5, 2012

Monmouth University’s Urban Coast Institute is pleased to present the New Jersey premiere of the new documentary, Ocean Frontiers: The Dawn of a New Era in Ocean Stewardship, on April 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Monmouth University, Wilson Hall Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. Online registration is requested at www.tinyurl.com/njevent.

Representative Frank Pallone, Monmouth University President Paul G. Gaffney II, and filmmaker Karen Meyer will share opening comments and introduce the film.

A panel discussion moderated by Urban Coast Institute Director Tony MacDonald will be held after the film screening at 7:45 p.m. Panelists include: Kris Ohleth, director of permitting, Atlantic Wind Connection; Cindy Zipf, executive director of Clean Ocean Action; Dr. Dennis Suszkowski, science director, Hudson River Foundation and adjunct professor at Monmouth University; and Sharon McKenna, education and special events coordinator, Viking Village.

Ocean Frontiers illustrates how collaboration and shared approaches to ocean stewardship can generate solutions that support sustainable ocean use, conservation and economies. From Boston Harbor where the shipping lanes were adjusted to protect endangered whales; to Iowa where farmers are changing their agricultural practices to diminish their impact on the Gulf of Mexico; and to Oregon and the Florida Keys where fishermen are working together to protect marine habitats and environment, Ocean Frontiers is a tribute to and an exploration of this a new era in ocean stewardship.

Green Fire Productions’ Executive Director and producer of Ocean Frontiers Karen Meyer stated, “We are excited to present Ocean Frontiers to the American public—to share ocean stewardship success stories from around the country. The documentary clearly conveys that win-win solutions are possible when industry, scientists, fishermen, conservationists and government groups work together.”

Director of Monmouth University’s Urban Coast Institute Tony MacDonald said, “Ocean Frontiers is a hopeful and helpful film, which demonstrates how much can be accomplished when you bring different stakeholders together to share information.” MacDonald added, “Comprehensive planning and collaborative management approaches support both healthy and productive ocean resources and ocean economies, as seen in the film.”
