Asbury Park Musical Memories, Park 1 will be screened at the Garden State Film Festival on March 24 at 6 p.m. at Chico’s House of Jazz in Asbury Park.
Monmouth University communication students in Professor Donna Dolphin’s class collaborated with director Susan Pellegrini on the documentary. Professor Donna Dolphin is the associate producer of the documentary. Students worked on the crew, conducted interviews and research, and mentored Asbury Park high school students during the project.
The experience of life on the west side of Asbury Park during the 30s through the 60s comes to life in this documentary with the recounting of histories by many of those who were part of the scene. The early days of rock as it evolved at The Student Prince, Mrs. J’s and of course, The Stone Pony is chronicled by those who lived it.
