MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Monmouth University is hosting a series of events to celebrate Hispanic heritage. Events are free and open to the public.

Thursday, September 13, 11:30 a.m., Student Center Cafeteria, Hispanic Food Tasting, come savor the wonderful flavors of our heritage, but hurry, this popular event concludes at 2 pm. Event sponsored by the Educational Opportunity Fund, Center for Student Success, and the Office of Equity and Diversity.

Monday, September 24, 4:30 p.m., Wilson Auditorium, Guest Speaker Jesus Nebot will speak on the topic of Illegal Immigration: A Humanitarian Perspective. Event sponsored by the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee and the Office of Student Activities and Student Center Operations.

Wednesday, September 26, 4:30 p.m., Lauren K. Woods Theatre, Cultural Exhibition featuring Juan Calderon from Cultural Explosion Dance Company. Event sponsored by the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee and School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Thursday, October 4, 2:30 p.m., Wilson Auditorium, Film Screening “Sin Nombre”. The film title translates to “without a name”, and tells the story of a young woman and young man on separate journeys that inevitably meet and are brought together after a deadly encounter. Written and directed by Cary Fukunaga. Event sponsored by the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee. 

Wednesday, October 24, 4:30 p.m., Magill Commons Club Dining Room, Poet Martín Espada. The Brooklyn born poet has published seventeen books and is called “the Latino poet of his generation” and “the Pablo Neruda of North American authors”. Event sponsored by the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, the English Department, the Institute for Global Understanding, Global Initiatives, the Distinguished Speakers Series, and the School of Social Work.
