 COMMISSIONING CEREMONY AT MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY ON DECEMBER 20

Monmouth University student and member of the Marine Corps Michael Asprocolas will participate in a commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, December 20 at 5 p.m. in Wilson Hall, Room 104, at Monmouth University.   During the ceremony, Asprocolas will accept a commission in the Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant (Marines).

Asprocolas grew up in Millstone, NJ and currently resides in Asbury Park, NJ.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2005, five days after he graduated from Allentown High School (NJ).  He was deployed twice and served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Sea Angel II (Humanitarian Relief in Bangladesh).  In 2009, he left active duty as a sergeant to attend Monmouth University where he earned his B.A. in political science in 2011. He is currently a student in the M.B.A. program at Monmouth University.

He was accepted to the Platoon Leaders Course and completed the Commissioning Program at Officer Candidate School in July of this year. While an undergraduate at Monmouth University, Asprocolas assisted in the creation of the Monmouth Veterans’ Association.  In addition, he was the captain/president of the Men’s Club Lacrosse Team and the Political Science Honor Society.

Guests of honor include Monmouth University President and retired Navy Vice Admiral Paul G. Gaffney II, and Captain Shaun Vacher USMC (Officer Selection Officer New Jersey).
