MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR NAMED FELLOW TONATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCHOOL NURSING

The National Association of School Nurses recently named Monmouth University Nursing Professor, Dr. Laura T. Jannone RN, NJ-CSN of Red Bank, NJ, for induction as Fellow to the National Academy of School Nursing (NASN).

The honor of Fellow is the most prestigious recognition that members can receive from the National Association of School Nurses.  It is a symbol of Dr. Jannone’s superior achievement in the school nursing specialty and of exceptional contributions to NASN.

Dr. Jannone is the first professor from Monmouth University’s Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing & Health Studies and the second resident from New Jersey to be inducted as Fellow to NASN. There are only seventy-nine Fellows in the country.

Dr. Jannone has been committed to school nursing for over twenty-five years, first as a school nurse then as a school nurse educator. She has contributed to school nursing by being a tireless advocate for school nurses by working with legislation for school age children on both a state and national level.

Dr. Jannone also contributed to school nursing internationally. She hosted the School Nurse International Conference at Monmouth University in 2009. In the summer of 2011, Dr. Jannone worked with the Hong Kong School Nurses Association in Hong Kong and taught school nurse workshops at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University there. She is currently working with a group of nurse educators from Asia to establish a regional school nurse program in the Hong Kong Area.

Dr. Jannone has conducted research in school nursing and has published her findings in many publications including the Journal of School Nursing. She opened the School Nurse Program at the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies at Monmouth University in 2000. She currently teaches in both the graduate nursing and undergraduate nursing and health studies programs, while she coordinates the school nurse program and serves as a Director of the Masters in Science of Nursing Program.

NASN will honor this year’s inductees at its 44th Annual Conference at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in California on June 25.
