Paid Time Off

Full-time staff and administrative employees receive time off with pay in the following categories, in accordance the Non-Academic Employee Handbook and their respective Collective Bargaining Agreements:

Sick Leave

Eligible full-time employees accrue sick leave at an accrual rate determined by collective bargaining agreements or the non-faculty employee handbook. Sick leave hours are accrued on a monthly basis (employees who are scheduled to work fewer than 52 weeks per year will accrue on a pro-rated basis).

Administrative employees may not accrue more than 180 days (six months). Sick time accrual ranges from eight days to 13 days annually. Sick days may be taken only in whole or half day increments.

Employees are not paid for accrued sick time when employment is terminated.

Personal Days

Most eligible full-time employees receive three personal days each fiscal year. This amount may vary based on collective bargaining agreements, which set forth terms and conditions of employment (for example, two personal days in first two years, three personal days after two years).

Personal days may not be carried over into the new fiscal year, and days that are not used by the end of the fiscal year are lost.

Please refer to the Personal Days Policy accessible in the myMU portal(under the heading Policies), and/or your respective Collective Bargaining Agreement regarding the increments in which personal days may be taken.  Unused personal days are not paid out at termination of employment.

Vacation

Vacation time accrual varies for full-time employees according to collective bargaining agreements or the non-faculty employee handbook.

Vacation hours are accrued on a monthly basis (employees who are scheduled to work fewer than 52 weeks per year will accrue on a prorated basis), and employees are paid for vacation time not used at the time of termination, if not terminated for cause and not exceeding one and one-half times their annual accrual.

Accrual rates range from 10 days to 20 days annually, according to collective bargaining agreements or the non-faculty employee handbook, and are pro-rated for employees scheduled to work less than 52 weeks per year.

Vacation accruals may not exceed one and one-half times the employee’s annual accrual. If the accumulated vacation amount is greater than the allowable amount at the end of the fiscal year, the employee will be permitted to carry over one and one-half times his or her annual accrual.

Vacation days may only be taken in whole or half day increments.
