Welcome from the Department Chair

Dear Students, Colleagues, Alumni, and Friends:

Welcome to Monmouth University’s Department of History and Anthropology. The Department of History and Anthropology is one of Monmouth University’s largest and most vibrant departments. We offer eleven different majors including, of course, history and anthropology as well as dual majors with education, special education, and an interdisciplinary major with political science. The department also offers minors in anthropology, archaeology, geography, geographic information systems, history, public history, race and ethnic studies, and religious studies. We are also home to thriving M.A. programs in anthropology and history. For more information about our graduate programs, contact Veronica Davidov, Ph.D., director of the M.A. Program in Anthropology, or Maryanne Rhett, Ph.D., director of the M.A. Program in History. Our department has a stellar faculty, well known as both teachers and scholars. Three of our professors have won Monmouth University’s Distinguished Teacher Award.

We are also particularly proud of our students. Many of them have gone on to careers in teaching, law, museum studies, cultural resource management, forensics, government service, law enforcement, and many other fields. Others have pursued further graduate level education either at Monmouth or at other distinguished institutions. For more information about our alumni, please see our Alumni News.

Beyond the classroom, the department offers students numerous academic, professional, and social opportunities. The Department of History and Anthropology is home to Monmouth University’s chapters of Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society and Lambda Alpha, the National Anthropological Honor Society.

Please contact me with specific questions about the department or if you need more information. Thanks for your interest in the Department of History and Anthropology.

Sincerely,

Chris DeRosa
