Monmouth University realizes the credit evaluation serves as one of the most essential pieces in determining which school a student will attend. Under certain circumstances, Monmouth extends the opportunity for an unofficial evaluation to be completed even prior to submitting an application for admission. The unofficial transfer credit evaluation is a courtesy.
Please note that the month preceding the start of a fall or spring semester is particularly busy, therefore, Monmouth cannot guarantee transcripts received during this time period will be evaluated before the start of the semester. The application deadline for the fall semester is July 15 and for spring is December 1. Please plan ahead so that we may provide you with the proper attention.

Generally speaking, courses that are 100-level or above (ESL or remedial coursework is not included) and achievement of a “C” grade or higher will transfer to Monmouth assuming the credits come from an accredited institution. Monmouth must then determine if a class fulfills a requirement or elective for the desired major. All credits may or may not be transferable.
If you are a student at one of New Jersey’s many community/county colleges before transferring to Monmouth University, we encourage you to use NJ Transfer as a planning tool when selecting courses for your program of study. NJ Transfer assists you by providing course equivalencies, Recommended Transfer Programs (RTPs), and evaluations of courses.

Monmouth will accept up to 72 credits from a two-year institution and 96 credits from a four-year institution. Associate degrees, although valued, are not taken as a whole. They are evaluated course by course in accordance with the desired major.
CLEP, Advanced Placement, Portfolio, and Life Experience credits may be accepted following review by the appropriate academic department. The Office of Undergraduate Admission recommends that transfer students make an appointment with an admission counselor to get a more accurate assessment of transfer credit possibilities.
The official credit evaluation takes place after acceptance to the University. Courses are analyzed on an individual basis. All course work must be approved by the department in order for it to be considered official. As each major has different requirements, the number of transfer credits may vary if a change of major occurs while attending Monmouth University. A copy of your evaluation will be mailed to your home.
Under the BSBA for economics, finance, management, or marketing, 22 business credits are allowed. Under the BSBA concentration in accounting, 28 business credits are allowed. Click here to view curriculum charts for business concentrations.
Under the Department of Education guidelines, transfer students are required to have a 3.0 grade point average (GPA), and achieve a passing score on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (CORE). Transfer students may transfer a maximum of six (6) professional education credits from a two-year institution. Students must also complete the professional education components at Monmouth University and meet current standards of the Monmouth University School of Education and the New Jersey Department of Education. The program includes field experiences beginning in the sophomore year, increasing in intensity during the junior year, and culminating in full-time student teaching in the last semester of their senior year.
