Almost a year before she graduates from Monmouth University, Haley Brue has already set herself apart by logging valuable experience in her chosen career field. In addition to appearing on the Dean’s List in each of her six semesters, the accounting major participated in an internship at a major financial company close to the campus.
“Last year there was an e-mail circulating among Business School undergraduates about the internship, so I jumped on it,” Haley said. “Immediately, Career Services was there to help us, and I’m proud of the kind of assistance they provide. From resume writing to interview preparation, they were there for me with mentoring and advice.”
After she graduates in 2015, Haley says she hopes to leverage her degree and internship experience as an operations analyst into a full-time job in accounting.
“My mom’s an accountant, so it kind of runs in the family,” Haley said. “But more than that, though, the classes, the teachers, and all the support staff, they really make you fall in love with what you’re doing. After my time at Monmouth, I don’t have any doubts about where I am going.”

“William Hill from Career Services mentored me throughout my search for an internship,” Haley said. “He provided me with great career advice and direction. He has encouraged me to utilize various interview techniques and helped to perfect my resume. Mr. Hill went above and beyond. He made sure to follow up with me after every interview. Mr. Hill goes the extra mile to make
sure everyone is on the path to achieving their goals.
“Douglas Stives, who taught my taxation courses, was another important mentor for me. He really made me fall in love with accounting. We get a lot of individual attention in our classes, which helps us develop a working
relationship with the faculty.”
How Monmouth helped me achieve my goals
“The small class sizes were a big deal for me,” Haley said. “I feel like I got more benefit out of my classes at Monmouth than I would have at a larger school.
“Monmouth University's Career Services department continues to help me achieve my goals. They have been with me every step of the way in my search for an internship. They helped write my resume, helped strengthen my interviewing skills, and gave me invaluable advice that I will carry with me throughout my career.”
