The Undergraduate General Education Curriculum is designed to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century. It emphasizes engaged learning and clear learning goals. Students are required to take between 42 and 48 credits in general education courses, or roughly 1/3 of their 128 credits required for graduation.

Key components include an academic first year seminar taught by engaging faculty members on topics of their choosing, courses specifically addressing topics of global understanding and cultural diversity, and a senior capstone course that encourages students to consider interdisciplinary perspectives on the human experience. Care has been taken to build in considerable flexibility and provide more choices of courses that will meet requirements.
